Our Approach
Timotheos is a Christian organization. God's Word is the foundation from which we work. We are here for disadvantaged (or orphaned) children and young people in Malawi. We want to help them on their way to an independent life. To that end we bring education, care, and evangelism to the villages where they live. Our desire is that they not only gain firm ground beneath their feet in their daily lives but also in Christ as their eternal Foundation.
Our Principles:
At Timotheos, we work according to the following principles:
We go to the people
We construct our projects in the villages, so that the children are not removed from their own culture and family, except in circumstances where the distance is too far and/or it is deemed better for the child to live next to school.
Local integration and collaboration
Our childcare centers are run by Malawians. We involve the local authorities of the surrounding villages in our projects.
Firm footing
We purposefully educate the children to be self-sufficient, and so be able to help their families as well.
We are realistic
Development aid demands a constructive approach. We dare to go against the grain when that is deemed more beneficial.
We are honest
The reality is that our work can sometimes not have the desired outcome. We are honest about this, even if that means the story we share is less appealing than we want it to be.
We take responsibility
In order to have the greatest possible impact in the lives of those under our care, it’s our weighty responsibility to effectively steward money received from our supporters
The Collaboration Triangle
In a country like Malawi there is great need in many areas of life. This leads to an important question: What is our task? The church, family, and school triangulation helps illustrate the balance in that. Each has their own responsibility, but still, we bear those responsibilities together.
